“I always think that in the audience there could be a child who comes to hear the music for the first time: this is why every concert must be special.” The passion of Spanish violinist María Dueñas is contagious. Born in 2002, Dueñas swept the classical world in a few short years, from first prize to competitions such as Tretyakov, Menuhin and Spivakov to the nomination as a BBC New Generation Artist, to the exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon before the age of twenty. She debuts at Teatro alla Scala with a concert by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, an early twentieth-century composer who contained many melodies taken from the Hollywood movies he had worked for. But this is also an opportunity to listen to the guest orchestra of the season together with its musical director Paavo Järvi: the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich has formed its character in a century and a half of history following conductors such as Friedrich Hegar and Christoph Eschenbach.
