Paavo Järvi is widely recognised as one of today’s most eminent conductors. He serves as Music Director of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and is founder and Artistic Director of the Pärnu Music Festival and Estonian Festival Orchestra.. Beginning with the 2028/29 season, he will become Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Highlights of Paavo Järvi’s seventh season with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich include the ongoing Mahler Symphony Cycle, a tribute to Arthur Honegger marking the 70th anniversary of his death, and a year-long focus on Creative Chair Thomas Adès. Featured artists include Sol Gabetta and Kirill Gerstein. In spring 2026, Alpha Classics released Mahler 7, the third recording in the orchestra’s cycle. The season also included the launch of a three-year residency at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, a Mahler tour to Vienna, Cologne, and Paris, and appearances at the Gstaad Menuhin and George Enescu festivals, as well as at La Scala in Milan.
In addition to his permanent positions, Järvi is much in demand as a guest conductor, regularly appearing with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic. This season he returns to the USA to conduct both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
As a dedicated supporter of Estonian culture, Paavo Järvi was awarded the Order of the White Star by the President of Estonia in 2013 and Commandeur de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, He has also received both the Sibelius Medal and Hindemith Prize.
